Dashi is the most basic of Japanese stocks, and is used in many traditional recipes. It is also the base for miso soup. The following recipe is for "Konbudashi." Konbudashi is made from a dried, edible kelp called kombu and bonito flakes, which are dried fish flakes. Douzo meshiagare!
